Requirement for understanding the Atmail WebMail Client.


Email Help

Folder Navigation

Atmail 7 offers a 3-pane or 2-pane email interface (you can switch back and forth using the "Pane View" buttons in the top right corner).

3-pane mode displays your email folders in the left pane, emails in the currently selected folder in the middle pane, and the contents of the selected email in the right pane. Simply click on a folder or message to select it.

In 2-pane mode, the left pane will display a list of your email folders, and the right pane will display the contents of the selected folder or email. Click on a folder or message to select it; selected emails will be displayed with a tab at the top of the WebMail interface. Use these tabs to close emails by clicking on the "X" next to the message subject. The folder contents will be displayed in the right pane when the last email is closed.

Right Click Support (Atmail 7.4+)

Great news for those of you who love to use the right click to save time on tasks. Atmail 7.4 now supports right click on your email list, your folders in the left-menu and on the message Pane when in Pane views. This gives you quick access to actions such as replying, forwarding, moving messages and adding sub-folders.

Folder Manager (Atmail 7.4+)

Organizing your folders is now easier with our new folder manager. You can access it by clicking on the cogwheel next at the top right of the folder arborescence. The folder manager interface allows you to add, edit or empty your folders and subfolders. (Please note, you can now also click on “Folders” in the left menu to collapse or view the entire folder tree).

Reading messages

To read a message, just click the message preview in either 2-pane or 3-pane view to read the full message.

Email Threading

Email threading lets you keep track of email replies automatically. Atmail displays the selected message along with a list of prior emails from the same conversation - no need to search through months of old messages to find important information. Click on the sender's email address in the list above the current message to view the email; click again to hide the email. You can also click the "Toggle Threads" and "Collapse Threads" buttons to expand or collapse all emails in a conversation thread.

Message reply

Atmail 7 offers new options for answering email - you can now reply directly from the message preview. Just type your reply in the field below the displayed message, add attachments or formatting if desired, and click "Send my Reply". You can also reply and forward mail using the "Reply", "Reply All" and "Forward" buttons above the email interface.

Reply All

When replying to an email with multiple recipients, you can automatically send your reply to all recipients by checking the "Reply To All" box in the email preview pane before sending your reply, or click the "Reply All" button while reading the preview. Click on "Show Recipients" to see a list of email addresses the message will be sent to.

Adding attachments

You can add attachments to emails by clicking the "Attach from Storage" or "Add Attachment" button below the email composition interface. This will bring up a file selection interface so you can browse for the file you want to attach.

Drag and Drop messages

Sort messages into folders by clicking and dragging them to the desired folder. You can delete emails by dragging them to the Trash, mark messages as Spam by dragging to the Spam folder, or save important emails in your archive folders without clicking through multiple menus.

Search Mail

You can either do a basic or advanced search on your currently selected location. Simply type into the serach text box and press enter for a basic search. For advanced search, click onto the magnifying glass to bring down a list of search options.

Contacts Help

Adding new contacts

To add a new contact, click the "New Contact" button and type the contact's information in the appropriate fields. You can add optional information using the "More Information" menu. Click the "Save Contact" button to save the contact.

Adding a picture to a contact

Click the silhouette icon by the contact's Name field to open a file selection dialog. Browse your computer for the picture you want to add, then click "Open" to add the picture to the contact.

Adding more fields

You can create fields for multiple email addresses, phone numbers, and other information using the green "+" (plus sign) buttons by each input field. Click the green "+" button to create a new field, enter the appropriate information, and select options from the drop-down menus. You can remove fields from a contact by clicking the red "-" (minus sign) next to the field. Click on "Save Contact" when finished to save the additional information.

Adding a new group

Click the "New Group" button to create a new Address-Book group. You can add contacts to groups by dragging their names from the contact list in the middle pane to the group's folder in the left pane.

Upload/Export contacts

Atmail 7 supports vCard format for address book/contacts import and export. To save your contacts to a vCard file, select the check-boxes next to the contacts you'd like to export, then click the "Export" button. Select the name and location to save your .vcf (vCard) file and confirm. To import contacts from a vCard file, click "Upload" and choose the .vcf file from the file selection dialog. Then click "Open" to import the contacts within the .vcf file.

Remote Contacts Access

Connecting to your contacts from other clients

You can connect to Atmail's CardDAV-based address book server with many different clients. The procedure varies from client to client, but all will ask for your CardDAV server's network address and may require authentication credentials.

Apple OSX

  1. Open System Preferences.
  2. Open Mail, Contacts & Calendars.
  3. Select Add Account > CardDAV Account.
  4. Enter your Atmail CardDAV details.

Calendar Help

Navigating the calendar

The calendar appears as a day view, displaying the current day's schedule in the right pane. The left pane displays a month view and a list of available calendars. Calendars selected with a check-box here will display events on the schedule in the right pane; uncheck the box next to a calendar to hide its events in the schedule display.

You can see the schedule for a different day by clicking the desired date in the left pane's month display. To view a different month, click the desired month's button below the month overview display. To view a different year, click the "<" or ">" buttons below the month overview display. The year you are switching to is shown.

Month View

You can also click the "Month" button for a month view in the right pane, with an overview of each day's events displayed in the monthly calendar. Click on a day to edit the day's schedule.

Making a new calendar

Click on the "+" (plus sign) button atop the list of calendars in the left pane to add a new calendar. Type the name of the new calendar over "Untitled" and press enter to create the calendar. You can delete calendars that you have access to by highlighting them in the list and clicking the "-" (minus sign) button.

Sharing a calendar

To allow other Atmail users to read and/or edit your calendars, highlight the calendar you wish to share from the list in the left pane. Click the gear sign button to change the calendar's settings.

Enter the user you want to share your calendar within into either the "Read/Write Calendar Access" or "Read Calendar Access" fields.

Adding a new event

You can add a new event by double-clicking on the schedule in the right pane, or click-and-drag your mouse cursor over the schedule to select a block of time for your event. You can also drag-and-drop the buttons at the top and bottom of the event's schedule to change the scheduled time. The new event will be created in the calendar that's currently highlighted in the left pane; the schedule in the right pane displays events from all calendars whose check-box is checked.

Editing an event

Click an event to edit it. Enter the appropriate subject, time, date, reminder time, location, and other information for the event, then click "Save" to save your changes.

Sharing an event

When editing an event, you can choose attendees for the event. Add attendees as emails for your event, and click "Save" to save your changes and send an email invitation for the the event to each attendee listed.

Remote Calendar Access

Connecting to your calendar from other clients

You can connect to Atmail's CalDAV-based calendar server with many different clients, including iCal, Mozilla Lightning/Sunbird, and even your iPhone. The procedure varies from client to client, but all will ask for your calendar server's network address and may require authentication credentials. You can find this information by highlighting the desired calendar and clicking the gear sign button for that calendar; this will bring up the settings for the selected calendar, including network address. Your calendar's network address, username and password may or may not be the same as for your email address; ask your system's administrator if you're not sure.


  1. Open iCal and go to Preferences.
  2. Select Accounts and select to add new account.
  3. Enter your Atmail Calendar details.


If you are running or want to run Thunderbird as your mail client but also want the ability to view and sync your personal and shared calendars then the Atmail CalDAV will allow you to do this. You must have the Lightning plug-in for Thunderbird in order to do this. You can download the plugin via the following URL.

Once you have Lightning installed and the CalDAV service enabled you can then add a new calendar with the following steps:

    1. Select Calendar > New Calendar.
    2. Choose "On the Network" and click onto continue.
    3. Choose "CalDAV" and enter your calendar URL. Click onto continue.
    4. Enter a name for your calendar and click onto continue.
    5. Enter username and password. Note you must use your full email address as the username.
    6. Once you have added the calendars and authenticated to the server you will then see events displayed. From this point forward it will automatically sync with the Groupware database to pull any new events. The sync works in both directions. If you add an entry through Thunderbird it will sync to Webmail.

WebMail Settings

Account Name

Displays your email account name.


Displays your email accounts current quota usage.

Real Name

This will appear in the "Sender" field of emails you send before your email address.

Reply To

Here you can specify an email address for replies to be sent to, instead of the email address you use to log in.

Thread Support

Check this box to display email conversations as threads.

Thread Limit

Determines how old emails can be before they are not included in threads.

Save sent emails to current folder

Enable to save sent emails to the current folder. This allows more complete thread building and tracking.

Change Theme

Specify which theme to use for the Webmail interface.

Theme Example

Shows a small preview of the selected theme.

Display Email Images

Toggle to automatically display external images in email messages.

Automatic Draft Save

Save drafts automatically while composing email messages.


Enable automatic checking for new email in the currently selected folder. Optionally enable sound notification and/or animated favicon for new messages on supported browsers.

Delete Trash on Logout

Automatically delete all mail from the Trash folder upon logout.

Default View

Select the mode to render the Webmail interface.

Enable message preview

Display an inline preview of each email message.

Interface Language

Select your preferred language for the Webmail interface.

Date display

Select the number of simultaneous messages to display in the Webmail interface. You may want to reduce this for slow connections.

Messages per page

Select the number of simultaneous messages to display in the Webmail interface. You may want to reduce this for slow connections.


Specify the time-zone for your location.


Here you can specify a message that will be added to the end of every email you send from Webmail. You can use plain text or HTML for your signature.

Anti-Spam Settings

Spam Filter Sensitivity

Select the sensitivity for classifying messages as Spam. A lower score will be more aggressive for marking spam.

Message Classification

If a message is classified as Spam select the action for handling the message.

Spam Tag

If a message is marked as Spam rewrite the header to include the following text.

Whitelist senders

Specify a list of email addresses and domains to whitelist. Each entry must be on its own line. Any email or domain that matches will automatically be flagged as trusted without being classified as Spam.

Blacklist senders

Specify a list of email addresses and domains to blacklist. Each entry must be on it's own line. Any email or domain that matches will automatically be classified as Spam.

Email Filters

Search Filters

Specify a rule or folder to filter results.

Add New Rule

Use this option to create email filters. Select from the drop down list "From", "To" or "Subject". Then select from second drop down list "is", "is not", "contains" or "does not contain". In the text box enter what you would like to be filtered. Then specify which folder the rule will deliver to.


New Rule: "From", "is" and "". Move To: "Trash".

This will move all emails received from to the trash folder.

Mail Options

Enable Forward

Check this box to enable forwarding of your emails to another email address.

Forward mail

Specify the email address to forward incoming email to.

Enable Autoreply

Check this box to enable automatic ("Vacation") reply to incoming messages.

Autoreply message

Specify the message to send to the senders of all incoming email.

Change Password

Current Password

Specify the current password for your email account.

New Password

Specify the new password for your email account.

Confirm Password

Specify your new email account password again (to avoid misspellings).

User Interface Color Schemes

Color Pallete

You can specify the color you wish to view the user interface in by clicking onto the down arrow at the top right of the interface, next to your account profile picture.

Storage Help

Upload new file

To add a new file, click the "Upload" button to open a file selection dialog. Browse your computer for the file you want to add, then click "Open" to add the file your storage tab. You can also drag and drop files from your computer to the storage tab.

Sharing a file

Select the desired file to share and click onto "Share File". You will then be give a public URL that anyone can use to access this file. To disable the sharing of this file, click onto "Disable File Share".

Adding attachments

You can add attachments from your storage tab to emails by clicking the "Attach from Storage" button below the email composition interface. This will bring up a file selection interface so you can browse for the file you want to attach.

External Access via Mac OSX

Open the menu and choose under "Go" the option "Connect with server".

Enter as the server address the URL and then click on "Connect".

You will now be asked for your credentials. Please enter the following data:

  1. Email Address: Enter your full email address,
  2. Password: Enter your account password..

Finished! Your webmail storage directory is now displayed under "Shared".

iOS Configuration

How To Install iOS Configuration Profile

If you have an Apple device running iOS 4 -> 9.3.5, you can opt to automatically configure it to access your Email, Calendar, and Contacts.

Access from the device to download a profile (you will be prompted to login again with your account and password).

Your iOS device should automatically prompt you to install the profile. Do so. Depending on the Atmail configuration, you may also be prompted to fill in some details such as your name or password.

Successful profile installation looks like this:

Afterward, verify that you can access your Email, Calendar, and Contacts from your device.

How to Delete or Remove iOS Configuration Profile

  1. On the iDevice, tap on Settings icon.
  2. Navigate to General and access the Profilemenu to see what profile is currently installed on the mobile device.

    Tip: If no “Profile” section been shown, it means no custom profile been installed on the phone.

  3. Tap the red Removebutton.

  4. Tap Remove when prompted to confirm with message that “removing this profile will change settings on your iPhone”.
